Abigale Lee Miller (born September 21, 1965) is an American choreographer who also teaches dance and is a reality TV star. She is the founder of the Abby Lee Dance Company, which was featured on the reality TV show Dance Moms for eight seasons. On June 27, 2016, Miller pleaded guilty to criminal bankruptcy fraud. Miller was sentenced for one and two-and-a-half years in federal prison and released on March 27, 2018. The diagnosis of lymphoma was made in April 2018. It is a form of cancer that renders you in a position to not walk. She is confined to a wheelchair for mobility. Miller was born in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. She was a dancer and was a student under her mother at the Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. Miller was 14 years old when she was asked to choreograph and coaching duties on one of her mother’s competition dance teams. Miller was eventually able to take over the studio in 1995 and changed the name to the company Reign Dance Productions. Miller was certified by Dance Masters of America, and was a part of Dance Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter 10 (February 1986). However, DMA terminated her membership in February 2012 due to Miller's reality television show Dance Moms was a "complete misrepresentation of the teachers we have and their students" and was detrimental to the profession.
